 Notes about the maps:
  • When rendered on a 3D sphere, these photographic Mercator projections make highly detailed globes. These maps do work in Bryce 4; may work in other Bryce versions; and may work in other 3D rendering programs as well. If you can verify that they are usable in other programs , please contact me and I will note that on this page.
  • The maps for "EARTH" and "VENUS" above do not include cloud cover. This may be added by rendering a cloud textured 3D sphere slightly larger than, and containing, the planetary globe.
  • The actual irregular shape of Phobos is not properly displayed in the representation above.
  • The maps for "NEPTUNE art" and "PLUTO art" are artistic renderings, not photographic.
  • The maps for "MARS2" and "SATURN2" have color and detail differing from the "MARS" and "SATURN" maps.
  • Planetary rings, specifically those of Saturn, are not included in these maps or renderings. If you know of any ring maps, please contact me.

  • As far as I can determine, most of these maps were created by David Seal at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California.
  • I collected most of the maps from the Texture Library, which is also a good source for other Bryce surface textures.
  • Some of the maps were collected from the Solar Views website.
  • Others were found at The Planetary Maps Hub, which has links to additional planetary map sites.
